President’s Message July 2021

Our Germania Board of Directors conducted a Special Meeting on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 in response to changing conditions caused by the COVID-19 DELTA variant in Santa Clara County and beyond. Given the most current guidance from Santa Clara County, the State of California and United States Center for Disease Control we decided to suspend all indoor activities and events at the Germania Verein until further notice. Therefore, ALL previously scheduled indoor activities and events for August and beyond are cancelled. Membership and Board Meetings will continue remotely, as scheduled, via ZOOM.

We decided to move our 2021 Luau on Sunday, August 29th, 11:30am-3:00pm, from indoors at Germania Hall to the Biergarten/patio. We will serve food provided by Ludwig’s German Table in addition to our traditional Kaffee und Kuchen. While we will have live entertainment including music, we will NOT have a dance floor for our dancing pleasure. This event is free to members. The charge is $15 for invited non-members. Hawaiian shirts and blouses are welcome. All participants need to be fully vaccinated. Bring a hat and a mask.

Our Board Members agreed that we not only had a legal obligation to our members, but also an even greater moral one. We understand that some club members or members of their households may have preexisting health issues or immunodeficiency that may put them at greater risk from exposure to the COVID-19 Delta variant. While we are very disappointed that we needed to suspend indoor activities and events for the foreseeable future, our priority must remain the health and welfare of our members and guests.

As more current and better information and guidance become available, we will continue to monitor and assess the situation and communicate with you in a timely manner. Until then, we hope you and your loved ones remain in good health.
